Why do we need electric cars? Well we need electric cars because these cars use something called batteries and batteries are renewable unlike fossil fuels because once you use it all up its GONE. And gas cars pollute the world.

Tesla Model S

The model S is the first full-size luxury electric car built in the United States. The battery for the model S has a 60 kWh battery which delivers 230 miles without any charge. The motor has a horse power of 382 and the battery has a horse power of 302. For the 60 kWh, supercharging is optional but  you have to pay an additional $2,000. It has a base price is $69,000.

Nissan Leaf

The Leaf is also one of the compact electric cars made in Japan. Now, in 2016 the Leaf has a 30 kWh battery with a 107 mile range. There is also another option of a 24 kWh battery with a 84 mile range. An interesting fact about this car is that LEAF stands for Leading Environmental-Friendly Affordable Family Car. If the battery broke or something happened to it, you would have to pay an extra $5,000. The average price for a leaf is $35,000-$40,000.

The up coming Bolt is a subcompact (smaller than a compact) electric car which was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in 2015. Alan Batey head of General Motors in North America announced that they will start producing in February of 2015. The Bolt has a 200 HP engine, 60 kWh battery, and 200 mile range. There are two ways to charge this car. One way is using a 120v or a 240v charger. the base price is estimated to be $30,000.

BMW I3

The I3  is the first BMW 5 door hatchback. They started production of activeE which also means electric and their is the active hybrid which is hybrid. The electric motor has a 125kWh and the battery has a 22kWh lithium ion. The electric range is 80-100 miles(130-160km). The built in charger has a 7.4kWh and the other charger has a 9.4kWh. The base price for this car is $42,000. But for the range extender is $46,000.

Ford Focus Electric

The Ford focus electric also called the focus bev is a 5 door compact car (c-class). The focus electric has a 143hp for the electric motor, and has an electric transmission. That is kind of rare for these types of cars because usually they have a 1 speed automatic. It has a 23 kWh battery with a range of 76 miles. The plug-in charger has a 6.6 kW on board charger. The base price for the focus is $39,995 with a US$795 destination charge.

Tesla Model X

The model X is the first full-size tesla crossover SUV. Its production started in 2015 but the didn’t start selling the model X until the middle of 2016. The electric motor has a 90D 259hp with a electric range which is a 90kWh 257 mile range or a P90D with a range of 250 miles. A unique design about the model X is the falcon doors. The made it like that because the CEO of tesla (Ellon Musk) thought it made it have easier access to get in and out of the car. The base price for the model X is around $80,000.

The up coming model 3 is a 4 door compact sedan. The code name for the model 3 is BlueStar. The minimum range for the model 3 is 215 miles or you can buy the longer range battery pack which is 300 miles more. The model 3 is a rear wheel drive but you can also get it in an all wheel drive. If you like camping, then you can buy a hitch and go. The price will start around $35,000.
