Can Art Help Your Mental Health

           paintMany people tend to think that art is just drawing, painting, etc; However art is a lot more than that! Art is something beneficial for mental health and controlling stress, anger, and even depression. Some think it’s necessary to have great drawing or painting skills to be an artist, which is not true. Everybody is an artist!

           No one needs talent to be an artist, in fact you are an artist no matter how complex or simple the art is. Everybody has a desire to be able to express themselves and many helpful effects come from art! Creating art can help with stress. Creative art can benefit your mental health and brain to make you a happier, healthier person.

         Activities such as painting, drawing, or sculpting, etc. are generally calming. Making art becomes a distraction and helps one get away from daily thoughts. I personally enjoy drawing and painting. I used to go to an art class once a week and it was really relaxing. It was a place for me to get away from reality and live in my own creative little world!

            Making art helps with creative thinking, which helps with communication between brain cells. In fact once you complete a work of art it makes one feel accomplished and raises self esteem! In my house all the paintings on the walls are made by me. Whenever I look at the art it makes me feel happy. Art is also another way through which one can express their feelings. Whenever I am angry, I grab my sketch book and tend to scribble some lines. Even drawing just a few lines helps me calm down.

             Remember this, you don’t need talent to be an artist to make art. Whenever you want to express yourself create some art! Anybody can be an artist. Everybody can be an artist. You are definitely an artist, on the inside.
