How To Make Your Own Hand Sanitizer

According to CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, washing hands is the best way of preventing the spread of diseases, including covid-19, or the coronavirus.  But, if there is no soap or water available for hand washing, the next best option is to use hand sanitizer, that contains at least 60 percent of alcohol.  Due to the coronavirus, and how fast it is spreading, you will likely have a difficult time finding hand sanitizer, but, don’t worry–here is how you can make your own hand sanitizer, and it will only take 3 ingredients;)

Some Tips for Making the Hand Sanitizer:

  • Work in a clean workspace, and wipe counter tops beforehand.
  • Wash your hands before making hand sanitizer.
  • While mixing, be sure to use a clean spoon or whisk, and wash these before use.
  • Check to make sure that the alcohol used is NOT diluted.
  • Mix until all ingredients are well blended.
  • Be careful to not touch the mixture with you hands, until it is ready to be used.

The Ingredients

  1. Rubbing alcolhol– 3/4 Cup
  2. Aloe vera gel– 1/4 Cup
  3. An essential Oil (ex. tea tree oil)– 10 drops or more as needed.

Directions:

Pour all of the ingredients above in a mixing bowl (it is recommended to use a glass bowl).  Next, stir the substances with a spoon until it turns into a gel-like consistency.  Pour the hand sanitizer into an empty bottle, and label it “hand sanitizer.”

How To Use It:

  • Make sure that you rub the hand sanitizer into your skin until it is completely dry.
  • Apply the hand sanitizer to the palm of your hand.
  • Rub your hands together, making sure that you cover all parts of your hand and fingers.
  • Continue rubbing for 30-60 seconds until your hands are dry.  It can take at least 60 seconds for germs to be killed.

That’s it! It is that easy to make your own hand sanitizer–so next time consider making your own instead of buying it.  Hand sanitizer can help you keep safe and reduce the spread of the coronavirus; however, washing your hands is more effective in removing certain kinds of germs.  Always check that the hand sanitizer contains 60% alcohol and wash your hands!!
