Tips On How To Do Calligraphy

At the start of 2019, I started to become interested in calligraphy.  I saw these beautiful writing on cards and other videos.  I wanted to learn it badly.  I wanted to be able to create such beautiful handwritten words.  So, I started to practice.  I practiced a lot.  As I got better, I started to upgrade on the brush pens I was using.  It turned out to be such a fun hobby I greatly enjoy.  I used YouTube and a friend to help me get better.  At the start of learning calligraphy, I was not very good.  If you want to learn calligraphy, here are some helpful tips I learned-to help you get started.

Practice With Worksheets

Using worksheets helps with learning calligraphy because it guides your strokes.  Having worksheets to practice with, it gets easier and easier.  Try searching up for free printable calligraphy worksheets, and pick the one you like the most.  If you want worksheets to practice with, I recommend this book from Amazon: Lettering and Modern Calligraphy: A Beginners Guide: Learn Handlettering and Brush Lettering.  This book has tips and tricks to help you get better at calligraphy.  This workbook also provides several worksheets and projects to practice with.  It is $6.16.

Practice and Take Your Time

It may take a while for you do be able to properly do the up and down strokes, but practice makes perfect!  If you write slower it makes a difference in your lettering and helps with patience!  The more you practice, the better you’ll get.  You can search up images of calligraphy and practice it on your own.  Even with a paper and a pencil you can practice writing your letters and words.

Explore with Your Calligraphy

As you practice, you probably with first start to learn to write your friend’s or your name. Sometimes, you may even have no idea what to write, after repeating the same words repetitively.  But, try writing other words.  For example, you can write the lyrics to your favorite song or your favorite quotes.  This will be a better and more fun way to practice your calligraphy.

Find Inspiration

You can find inspiration on social media, such as instagram to discover new techniques and tools.  When I first started learning, I found it helpful to look at other people’s calligraphy.  It helped me learn how to write a letter differently to make it look better.  Finding inspiration will improve your calligraphy and you get to learn from other talented people!

Remember, anyone can do calligraphy!  With patience and practice you will be a pro at it!  Have fun writing!
