The Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is very nice. Once you get there, you see the two main waterfalls that make up the Niagara: American Falls and Horseshoe Falls. Horseshoe is the main waterfall and it is on the Canadian side. American Falls however, is relatively small compared to Horseshoe and is on the USA side. Horseshoe Falls is made up of two smaller waterfalls: Cataract Falls and the Great Falls. The Great Falls is the two main falls of Horseshoe. There is one small waterfall right next to a viewing platform. The two Great Lakes that make up all of Niagara falls are Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.

The Abandoned Mineshaft

Niagara Falls has a scary attraction in the Canadian Journey Behind the Falls. Someone in the early 1900’s built these tunnels. They also decided to make a mineshaft along with it. Now it is covered by a gate, but you can still see through it. All you can see is moss covered walls with wooden beams holding it up. According to the legend, a young girl caught on fire in this very tunnel. By what? Nobody knows. She tried to reach the waterfall to put herself out, but she didn’t make it. Now you can still hear her screams haunting this tunnel, from over 100 years ago.

The Attractions

Enough of the scary stuff? OK then. I’ll just tell you about all the activities you can do there. This is a list the main activities:

These are all the main activities and attractions. The Journey Behind the Falls is where the Abandoned Mineshaft is, along with a lower viewing platform right next to Cataract Falls. Once you have been there, you then go to the Cataract Portal. This is where you get to ACTUALLY go behind the falls. There is another portal, which is the Great Falls. The Hornblower/Maid of the Mist is a boat ride. You start at a white tent at the bottom of the falls, and then you get on a boat. The boat will start going near the Great Falls, and before you know it, mist will be everywhere! The Aero-Car is a car that is on a cord above the Niagara Whirlpool. It isn’t actually a whirlpool, but just a cool part of the water that you get to hover above. The Helicopter View is a ride on a helicopter above the falls. If you’ve never been on a helicopter before, and also want to see Niagara from up above, it’s a win, win! Finally, Skylon Tower is a huge tower, that is over 520 ft tall. It gives you an amazing view of Niagara, and it also has a revolving dining room! There is also an outside area, and since it is so high, it is very cold. Survivors

In 1960, a small boy fell of his Maid of the Mist boat. He was only 7, and he held onto a rock near the falls. Eventually, the Maid of the Mist II spotted him, and threw a life buoy. He got on the boat, alive. On July 10th, 2019 (yes this year) a man was swept off the falls. The man was climbing a retaining wall and jumped off into the river. He was swept off, and police came looking for him. He was found holding onto a rock under the Journey Behind the Falls viewing platform. Then, he was taken to the hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.
