What is the busiest week of the summer? The week before school starts. That’s when you realize that you only bought half of the recommended school supplies. It’s the week that crams in a months worth of back to school shopping. I’ve had many past experiences with the week before school starts. So with the knowledge that I’ve acquired over the years, I made a list to make sure you don’t forget anything at all.
Umm… Supplies Please?
The number one thing you have to make sure you do before the last week of school is to double check your school supplies and to make sure you didn’t forget anything. The last thing you want to do is to go to school short of supplies. Teacher – “Kids take out your pack of crayons” Kid – “Umm….”. Don’t let that be you.
Double check all of your summer homework packets and assignments. This would be your last chance to check over them and get them done. But remember for next year, it’s much easier to start the homework early so that the last few weeks of summer don’t feel super, super, super (super) boring.
You have to make sure that all of your back to school clothing shopping is done and dusted! It’s actually really ironic that I put this in here since I actually haven’t finished my back to school shopping either. So you have to make sure that it gets finished.
How To Be Better This Year
One of the most important things you have to do in the last week before school is to make sure that you are mentally prepared for the next year. Sometimes the best way to be prepared isn’t with the materialistic things but with making sure that you’re ready for what’s coming next.
For kids that are in middle school or high school make sure you contact your counselor over the summer just to make sure that you signed up for the right courses and classes. It’s much better than getting your schedule moved around during the year.
Sometimes the thought of going to a higher grade level doesn’t really sink in and can often make your first few days at school be super misleading. I’m going into 8th grade next year but right now I’m mentally prepared as a 7th grader. You have to make sure that you are exactly where you are going and where you belong.
Beat The Alarm Clock
During the summer you probably stayed up till 11:00 watching movies and don’t wake up until noon. Well that definitely has to change. Start with baby steps on the last week of summer. Wake up an hour earlier and sleep an hour earlier each day until you get back on schedule. You don’t want to miss the bus.
Start a daily routine a few day before school starts. Make sure all of your outfits for your first few days of school are picked out and hung up along with all of your supplies in your bag. If you were thinking of changing up your look for the school year now would be the time to do that. Maybe you could get a new haircut?
Talk to your friends to keep your relationships super solid right before school starts. Ask them how they are getting prepared for the next school year to get some other ideas. Meet you future teacher(s) if you get the chance to.
Make a lunch menu for every day of the week of the school year. Plan quick and healthy breakfasts as well. Some classic favorites are scrambled eggs, toast, and cereal. Try your very best to never miss breakfast during the school year. It’s the most important meal of the day and you will definitely need the extra boost of energy.
Start planning out the dates and times of your extracurricular activities. But make sure you leave a good amount of time every evening to do your homework. Organize your workplace (desk) and your room. Sharpen pencils and find good erasers.
Most importantly though, be yourself. Make sure this year will be better than the last. Make new friends, hopefully not any enemies. Take your school by storm!
