Governor Ralph Northam, the governor of Virginia, ordered all Virginia schools to stay closed through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year because of Covid-19 affecting most of the U.S.

For many students they will have digital learning. The digital learning would be something like Skype or any place where you can make a conference call like Zoom. Assignments will be posted on Google Classroom and it would be just like school without the face to face contact.

SOL’s are Cancelled

Students in grades 3-12 will have no SOL’s this year. SOL’s are the end of the year testing to see how much they learned, but they are cancelled this year. Students in 8th grade and high school have already taken the Writing SOL but nothing else. This was around the time that Governor Ralph Northam ordered all schools to be closed for two weeks, and since there was a two week closure the Virginia SOL’s had been cancelled.

With the SOL’s cancelled the school districts are now facing a big problem. Some students that are ahead of grade level are taking the Algebra or Geometry SOL in 7th and 8th grade. Those SOL’s help them graduate in college and are required. Many high school students are also facing the same problem.

I’m not sure what they are going to do with the SOL situation because they are in a big pickle, but I hope they figure it out soon.
