A Short Summary

It’s summer and Reuben is just an ordinary, lonely boy. Bored, he likes to sneak around while being hidden from the attention of The Smoke’s helpers, The Directions (they always face different ways).  One day, Reuben ventures out into the city and finds a narrow alley.  He decides to climb up the alley and finds a secret watch.  In hopes of selling the watch to support his hard-working mother, Reuben goes to several jewelers.  However, he has no luck, and he realizes his mistake.

Now, The Directions are after it to receive it for their boss, The Smoke.  But, why does the Smoke want this watch?  When Reuben examines the watch he sees inscribed in the watch, is “P.William Light.”  After some research, he lies to his mom and goes to the place, “Point William Lighthouse.”  There, he meets the keepers of the lighthouse and finds out more secrets and secrets.  This leads him on a dangerous adventure to save the city.  Will Reuben succeed to save his beloved mom and city from The Smoke?  Find out in the book, The Secret Keepers.

  • There is not much violence
  • Some patience is required, for the secret to the mystery to be revealed
  • Trenton Lee Steward is also the author of the Mysterious Benedict Society series, and these books are a good read for spies who enjoy mysteries:)
  • The recommended age group ranges from 9/10 and up
  • The scariest part of this book includes almost drowning in dark island tunnels
  • Reuben’s personality – he is a a loner, loves his widowed and financially struggling mom and feels lots of guilt when lying to her
  • There are many positive messages including friendship, trust, and the bad things that greediness brings.
