Ellen Stofan was a NASA engineer and scientist. This is her education background. Ellen received a Bachelor of Science degree in geology when she went to the College of William and Mary. The year she got it was in 1983. She also received her Bachelor in Science degree in the same college on the same year. She earned her masters and doctorate degrees in Brown University.
Skills and Contributions
Ellen has many skills and has made many contributions. Here are some. Ellen was very good at planetary geology. She studied Mars, Earth, Venus and Saturn’s moon Titan. She also helped guide a plan to place humans on the planet Mars. Additionally, she was theĀ principal investigator on the Titan Mare Explorer mission. This was a possible mission where NASA would send a Ā lander to the moon Titan. She also experimented with Spacebone imaging on shuttles. Spacebone imaging is a radar of Earth and shuttles. Ellen was also the Chief Scientist for the New Millennium Program, where scientists would think up and test more advanced space technology.Ā She is an associate member of the Cassini Mission to Saturn Radar Team and a co-investigator on the Mars Express Mission. She is also the co-investigator of the MARSIS sounder. This is a low frequency radar sounder.
Awards and Early Life
Stofan got many awards, but the most important one is theĀ Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. She is the daughter of Andrew Stofan. He was a rocket engineer who also worked for NASA. They just naturally had to have the same career! Her mom was a science teacher. Wow! Is this a coincidence or what? She was born on February 24, 1961. The place she was born in was Oberlin, Ohio.
