Every year in my school we have something called poem in a pocket day and can you guess what month it is in? April. Poetry month. Every April it is poetry month. In this blog I will talk about some types of poems that you could write.
Haiku – A Haiku is an ancient form of Japanese writing. In a Haiku, you will have three lines. The first line is supposed to have five syllables. The second line is supposed to have seven syllables. Then the last line has five syllables. In total there should be seventeen syllables. There should not be that much rhyming in a Haiku. You will rarely see a rhyming Haiku.
Limerick
A Limerick is a funny poem with only five lines. The first second and fifth poem have to be seven to ten syllables. Also those lines should rhyme. The rhyming pattern should be A,A,B,B,A. The third and fourth lines have to rhyme with each other but, can only be five to seven syllables.
Acrostic poem
An Acrostic Poem is a poem that has however many lines and normally the first letter from every line should spell out a word and every line has to have something to do with the word or phrase. These poems usually have a theme, like winter perhaps.
Diamante
A Diamante poem is shaped like a diamond. The first line is where you put a noun. The second line you have to put two adjectives. In the third line you have to put three verbs. The fourth line would have four nouns. In the fifth line you have to put three verbs. In the sixth line you put two adjectives, and in the last line you put another noun basically. All of it has to link up to the first noun. Here is how it goes:
