Time Abduction – An Original Sci-Fi Story

Who I am

Hi, my name is Aiden Herlintone, and I’m a twelve year old boy. I live in Oakville. At least I used to live in Oakville. I had to move to a place called Quintel City. There, I met some pretty neat friends. My life changed for the better right then and there, and so did the world’s.

Moving

“Have you packed your bags Aiden?” My mother asked. “No! I’m not going to, and I’m not moving away!” I answered in a harsh tone. “Honey, I understand you will miss your friends, but we can’t stay! We’ve already sold this house, and bought the other one in Quintel City!” She responded caringly. My mom always had a sort of charm in her voice, that made me do what she asked. “Okay, I’ll pack.” I said. With a stomp, I shut my room door. It was a small room. It had blue walls, a tiny closet, and a one-person bed, but it was cozy. I like my house and room like that. I threw my clothes in the black, glossy suitcase, and shut it hard. I walked downstairs, and gave my mom a glare. Without a word, we walked into a silver Mercedes, and drove away from Oakville, away from all my friends, and my soon to be old house. Little did I know, this would be the best thing that ever happened to me.

My New House

Both my Mom and I hated the seventeen hour drive. Our route was supposed to be simple, but somehow my mom mucked it up. Anyways, when we arrived at our house, I was appalled. It was the biggest house I’d ever seen, in a neighborhood of only two other mansions. All of the houses had a white vinyl siding, and tons of windows. At the time, I Image result for mansionliked cozy and small houses, mostly because I was accustomed to living in one my whole life. “This is what I’ve been saving up for! Don’t you like it?” Mom asked, but just a second later, she walked into the house with a couple boxes, leaving my distaste unsatisfied. I heaved my suitcase across the black, concrete driveway, and walked into my new house. I thought I would hate it even more than the outside, but I didn’t. All my hatred for this house was totally washed away when I glanced at the entry hall. This quick glance turned into a long stare. It was a very open room, with paintings hung in many places. The ceiling was embroidered with a swirly design that made an illusion that I just couldn’t get enough of. It was then I realized how much I liked open spaces, and it was then that I realized how much I loved my new home.

Anybody Home?

That day, I went outside to check if any kids lived in the houses next to mine. It was a nice summer afternoon. The leaves on the trees were rustling, the wind was making a slight breeze, and it was just overall beautiful. The house directly on the left of mine looked exactly the same. I’d come to like the exterior of the houses too. Ding dong! As I rang the bell of this mansion, a swarm of butterflies flew through my stomach. They could be anyone! I thought. I flicked that thought away though, and I was glad for it.

David Publis

The person who opened the door was a skinny kid. He had black hair, and small eyeballs. But the huge, broad smile overpowered everything else. “Hello? Who are you?” The kid questioned. “Who are you?” I retorted. “Me? I’m David Publis. I’m eleven years old. Now tell me who you are.” David Publis answered. “Publis? I’m not gonna ask. I’m Aiden Herlintone. I’m twelve though.” So far, I thought the conversation was going pretty well, and I didn’t want to risk it. I hastily ended it with a question. “Do you want to play outside?” I asked. “Sure. I’ll be outside in a minute.” David answered. Just as he was closing the door, I inquired, “Who lives in the other house over there?” I pointed across the road. “You know, the slightly smaller one?” “Oh, that’s Contal Genrel’s place. His family is slightly poorer, so they have a mini-mansion, instead of a mansion like us.” With that, he shut the door.

Contal Genrel

Ding dong! I had just rang Contal Genrel’s doorbell, this time with no worry at all. If David Publis knew this guy, he couldn’t be so bad. Right? I heard a scuffle of footsteps, and then, the door opened. “Hi, I’m Aiden Herlintone. I know you are Contal Genrel, so do you want to play outside?” I must have said all that too fast, because he shut the door right then. From the quick glimpse of him that I got, he looked like me. Not too skinny, not too fat. Just right. He had blue eyes, and a triangular nose. He had glasses with red frames, and gray temples. If you’re wondering how I noticed all that in just a couple seconds, let’s just say I have a keen eye. “Wait! Come back! I know David.” I yelled into the door. When I uttered that last part, he opened the door again. “David? Which David?” Contal asked curiously. I answered, “David Publis.” I pointed at the other mansion. “He told me your name. He’s coming outside to play.” “I’m sorry for shutting the door on you.” Contal said apologetically. “It’s okay. See you in a minute.”  I responded. I ran off the porch of Contal Genrel’s house, and waited on the bench in the middle of the houses. A minute later, David Publis was running at me, with Contal at his side. “Who are you?!” They demanded.

Time Abduction

“Me? I already introduced myself!” I answered dubiously. “We mean when did you get here? We never saw you living here.” David clarified. “Oh, I just got here a couple hours ago. We moved from our old house in Oakville.” I claimed. “Oh.” Contal and David said in unison. “Hey, you two want to go to the museum? They recently opened a time-traveling exhibit. The centerpiece is the attempt at a time machine that Ali Razeghi built in 2012.” David asked. But when he did, it sounded more like a decision. “Sure.” Contal and I said. David led the way, through a forest, past some hills, and into a building in the city. We asked an employee where the new exhibit was, and he pointed directly forward. “There it is. The weird looking scramble of bars and paint that people call a time machine.” David said. But I had a totally different opinion on the “time machine”. I stared in awe as I saw the technology behind the disguise, and realized it might actually work. Contal and I explored the exhibit. It had dinosaur fossils, and rocks. I guessed they were decorations, because people couldn’t actually travel in time. Just as I said that, however, we heard a yelp, and David Publis was gone.

A Dangerous Commitment

“Where did he go?” I yelled at Contal. “Where did the time machine go?” Contal countered. “David? David Publis? Where are you!?” Contal searched. “We should go tell his mom.” I suggested. “No! Are you mental? She’ll be mad enough that we went to the museum without permission, and now we lost him.” Contal rejected my suggestion with a little bit of blame. We started to walk out of the empty museum, but then we heard a thump. I looked back and said, “There it is!” I pointed at a tangle of metal bars and paint: the time machine. “If David traveled in it, we probably can too! We have to go save him. There’s no telling when he is, or if he’s safe.” I decided. “Okay, but we have to make it quick. The museum closes in an hour.” Contal cautioned. We walked to the time machine, and examined it. There didn’t seem to be a seat, but there was a metal dial with different periods of time. The dial was already set though, and it was set to a dangerous time. “We have to go to the Jurassic Period.” I said.

Into The Past

Contal Genrel was going crazy. “The Jurassic Period? David’s smart enough to get back himself.” He muttered. “No, he’s not. I mean, he is, but he can’t get back because the time machine is here, in the present! There are only two somebodies that can save him, and that’s us.” I said bravely. Contal shuddered. “Fine, go get yourself eaten by a dinosaur. I’m not coming.” Contal argued on. “Fine then.” I stormed over to the time machine, and pushed on the dial. I heard gears whirring, and I started getting dizzy. My vision clouded, but I saw a blurry figure fall down just in front of the time machine. Contal. I thought. Why’d he collapse? I felt like I was about to collapse too. Then, I felt butterflies in my stomach as I fell through the sky. Below me was a grassy plain. There was also a slim river separating the land from mountains. The mountains had a red liquid pouring out from the tops. Just then I realized the red liquid was lava. I remember in my Social Studies textbook, it said that there was an abnormal amount of volcanoes when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. On the note of dinosaurs, there were many big hulking creatures chasing tiny plant-eating animals. “Dinosaurs?” I was dumbfounded. But then, I should have been more worried about surviving the fall, but then I looked to my side, and I saw a fainted Contal Genrel hurtling down toward the ground.

Impact

We were closer to the ground now. About one hundred yards, actually. I took a closer look, and predicted how much I would move. I guessed that I’d land in the water, but the impact would feel like a bellyflop, except a lot worse. But Contal Genrel was heading straight for the ground. Only a miracle could save him. “Contal! Wake up!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. He jolted his eyes open. “Thrust yourself towards me! If we hit the water, we should survive the impact.” I instructed. He made a swimming motion in the air, and it moved him right under me. “Go into cannonball position! It won’t hurt as much.” I told him. He followed the directions, and just in time. A second later, we hit the water, and everything went black.

Rescue

I woke up with contal right beside me. I took a gasp for air, and scanned the area. Thankfully, I didn’t see any man-eating dinosaurs around. Luckily, there weren’t any mutated piranhas in the water, or we would be dead meat. Literally. I shook Contal with all the strength I had left in me. “Come o-on C-Contal.” I groaned. I was no doctor, but I knew how to check if someone had a pulse. I trotted over, and felt a weak one. “I need you. David needs you.” I whispered in his ear. He flinched, but then lied motionless. I felt his pulse again, and it was stronger. “David! Where are you?” He startled me. “Contal!” I shouted with glee. He was happy to see I was alive, but we got up, and started searching. We memorized the location of the river, because that was where the time machine was. We dared not separate, so we trudged along. A small dinosaur ran past our vision. “Is it dangerous?” Contal whispered. Since I clearly had more Jurassic knowledge than him, I said, “It’s a Brachiosaurus. They’re Herbivores.” I told him. “Oh. What’s a Herbivore?” He asked. “It’s in the name. Something that eats herbs, and just so you don’t ask what herbs are, I’ll tell you that they are plants.” I answered. They heard a loud roar in the distance. “Let’s not go that way.” I suggested. We ended up going that way anyway. We passed a cave with a figure in it without notice. But then, Contal pointed it out. We had found David Publis.

 Escape

“David! Are you okay?” I asked. Nevermind. Just follow us.” He followed without question. “Okay, what’s the catch? This was way too easy.” Contal asked. He had a point. Things were never this easy. Roar! There it was again, but this time, much closer. David pointed to the trees, petrified. “It’s a Tyrannosaurus Rex, Contal. I think that’s the catch.” I said. It started running towards us. It roared again. We started sprinting into the forest. “Let’s confuse it. We have to take weird turns.” I told the other two boys. They followed me, but got confused themselves. The T-Rex extended it’s neck and lunged for David. “Ahh! My sleeve!” I looked back, and saw that David had a ripped off sleeve. What I noticed that he didn’t though, was that he had gotten a big gash on his arm. We ran into a roofed forest. “He can’t get here.” I muttered. “I think.” We sat down, and caught our breath. I decided not to mention the gash on David’s arm, because I figured that would panic him. Instead, I asked, “Contal, how did you get here with me?” Contal responded, “There must have been some reach to the time machine. I collapsed, and then I was falling through the sky.” Then, we heard trees falling down, and saw the T-Rex in the distance.

Back at Home

Seriously? I thought. We were just settling down, and then a giant Carnivore decides it’s hungry? We ran as fast as we could, and we caught a glimpse of the river, and on its banks, the time machine. “There! Follow me!” Contal ordered. We did as asked and we reached the mysterious machine. They held the metal bars, and I turned the dial. I tried to remember which period we lived in. Suddenly, it popped into my head. The Quaternary Period I thought. I looked for it on the dial, and there it was, as the very last one. “Is this a good time to mention that we can’t travel into the future with this thing?” I said. They glared at me. “No!” Now I had to figure out how to get to a specific time in the period. I found three more dials side by side under the other one. These ones had the settings for the year, month and date. March 11, 2020 I memorized the date before we left, because I knew it would be important. The dinosaur was closing in on us, and I only had a couple seconds. I pushed the button and yelled, “Get ready!” The huge dinosaur opened its mouth and was almost a centimeter away from me, but then, we arrived back home.

Recognition

“David, what got into you?” Contal scolded. “Yeah dude! We almost died for you!” I said. “My curiosity got the better of me.” He explained. “But we need to share this news with the world!” So we did. We were in newspaper articles, on national television and overall famous. A few years later, humans had successfully built models of the time machine that changed the world, except those could go into the future. Later on, when David, Contal and I were adults, people started designing aesthetically pleasing versions, with seats, walls and even a control panel. This discovery unlocked so many doors, and the possibilities of where humans could advance were endless, and Contal Genrel, David Publis, and I, Aiden Herlintone made it all possible.
