The Sandy Bridge To The Beach

Virginia Beach. It’s a pretty well known and famous beach in the U.S.

Sandbridge Beach. What’s that? Most people have not heard of a beach in Virginia called Sandbridge Beach.

That’s because it’s one of the less popular beaches in Virginia. But don’t think that just because it’s not a really famous beach that it’s not a good beach. Because believe me it’s fabulous. I for one am the type of person who loves to go extremely far into the ocean. This beach was perfect for that. It was just about perfect for anyone and everyone. Shallow beaches are great for family vacations. This beach was so shallow that my six year old sister swam out a good 25 meters! I was at least 50 meters out into the water! Usually my sister doesn’t want to come into the water higher than her knee level due to rough currents and waves. Didn’t have to worry about that here.

The waves. That’s another thing that I really liked about this beach. You can’t have a beach without the waves (those are called bays). But you also don’t want to go to a beach where the waves are too rough and dangerous. That was definitely not the case with this beach. Some waves were small and some were humongous, but all of the waves were gentle when they crashed. By gentle I don’t mean they disappeared into thin air (that would not make for a very fun time in the water). They were in the “perfect zone”. Lukewarm water, hot beige sand, gorgeous seashells. You get the full package. There’s even a boardwalk that has a firework show twice a week!

Not this kind of Duck, but it's still cute!

Cute! But I didn’t mean this kind of Duck

Quack!

Ever heard of a beach in The Outer Banks called Duck? I have (I wrote a blog on it) because I’ve been there a few times. It’s an amazing beach and definitely worth the trip. Sandbridge is actually a lot like Duck. They are both fairly shallow beaches, they both have gentle but still pretty big waves, and neither of them are ever crowded. When we went to Sandbridge we booked an oceanfront beach house for the week. The entire section of the beach in front of our house was basically ours and ours alone. There were barely any people there. But I can’t say the same about the sections of the beach in front of the hotels. Good luck finding a spot there. Now you all must be thinking of going to Duck instead of Sandbridge since they’re basically the same. Have you considered the cost yet? An ocean view house, not even oceanside house, in Duck costed us about the same price as an oceanfront house in Sandbridge. So which beach would you pick?

P.S. Bring a volleyball net and a volleyball. It’s a must-have!
