Make a Difference in the World

No one is perfect. Nowhere is perfect. Nothing is perfect. What does that mean? Perfection is merely a fragment of a person’s imagination. It can never be reached. This means that there are problems in this world. Our world. Some we know; others we don’t.

Difference

Have you ever heard a story on the news about someone brave enough to take action on the troubles we all face today? I’m sure that we all have. Especially with kids, we have a voice in the back of our heads that tells us that we can’t make a difference in the world. That is definitely not true. Sure, we may not be able to  save every endangered animal species in the world or stop a natural disaster. Nobody can do that. My mom always says that if you have a list of a thousand things to do, you won’t possibly be able to do everything. But if you take one step at a time, one day you will get there.

Now ask yourself, what can you do right now to make a difference? For starters, aim high but think small. A lemonade stand is a very common choice for fundraising or spreading information. However, I wouldn’t suggest lemonade stands for a few reasons.

First of all, lemonade is a very sugary drink and isn’t healthy at all. Unless you make it with less sugar and dilute it with water, but that would taste … bleh!

Second, lemonade won’t raise much money. At most (if you’re being fair with prices) one cup would raise 50 cents.

Besides why would you want to be ordinary when you could be extraordinary? Do something different. For instance on WWF (World Wildlife Foundation) you can get prizes for donating a certain amount of money to endangered animal species. A great way to raise money is to sell some of the prizes like the stuffed animals for more money. A stuffed animal would certainly raise more money than a glass of lemonade. They’re also much better for your consumers’ health.

Raising money isn’t the only way to make a change in our society. It’s only one of many many options. What if you set up an information booth outside of one of your local grocery stores? Awareness is the first step to change. Gather a group of friends and pick up garbage in you communities. Though it may be one of the easiest ways to do so, money isn’t the only way to make change happen. The easy way out is never the best way out.

Another way to make a difference is to come up with an invention or an idea. I started this website to make a difference. So that kids would have to opportunity to write and express their ideas and opinions. The cause you choose to fight for doesn’t have to be a cause that everyone else is fighting for. Make a difference differently. What will you fight for?
