Stone Mill Elementary School

Stone Mill Elementary School

Stone Mill Elementary School is an elementary school as you probably guessed! It has grades Kindergarten to 5th grade, and has really kind teachers. The current principal is Dr. Williams and the vice principal is Mrs. Budman. In each grade you get to do various projects, for the school year. For us recess is 30 minutes long, and we have a lot of equipment. We have a pretty big cafeteria, and a gym about the same size.

Lunch and Recess

Before lunch and recess you are in your classroom doing work. Then when you hear the bell ring, you can’t just run to recess or lunch like in TV shows! Instead, you have to wait for your teachers to dismiss you. Then, you either go to lunch or recess depending on your grade. During recess, you can run around all you want. We have 2 playgrounds and they’re both pretty big. There is a kickball/baseball field, but we don’t have any bats, so the kids just play kickball. There is also a wide expanse of grass next the feild where kids usually play soccer. Overall, recess is very fun. During lunch, you either buy your lunch from the school cafeteria or you bring your own lunch from home. Don’t be too loud, because the lunch aids will hush you up!

Writing and Science

During writing time, you normally do projects such as a writing story. There are always deadlines and due dates for these projects. You usually have 1 week for research, and 1 week to write. Sometimes you do art projects during writing time too. At the end of the year, you might get to learn superlatives in writing! In science, you do cool experiments, and you learn about how things work. For example, you could learn about circuits, or static electricity! Both of these subjects are very fun indeed.

Math and Social Studies

In Stone Mill, in 4th and 5th grade, you have a chance of being in higher grade level math. In the on-level fourth grade math class, you only study up 4th grade math. But in Compacted Fourth Grade Math, (this is the name of the higher grade level math) you do math up to the 5th grade level. The same with 5th grade happens, but with 5th and 6th grade math. Social studies is basically just history. You learn all about historical figures and the old times. Sometimes these historical events tie into our writing projects.

Reading and Specials

In reading you read books and write summaries. You also write essays and word definitions. Sometimes you will find the theme of books and passages. This is basically what you do in this subject. It is usually boring, unless you finish all your work. Then you can write stories! But enough about this, and now more about specials. Specials include art, P.E, music, and finally media. It’s safe to assume that during art you make art projects. All of these are really fun and interactive. In P.E you do exercises like catching and throwing balls, playing tennis, and much more. During music, you learn about notes and the musical staff! Sometimes you will have quizzes, but if you pay attention, you will ace them! During media, you learn about computers and technology. It is fun for those of you who like video games! All of these specials are very enjoyable!
