Online Learning

How It Started

Since the COVID-19 outbreak was classified as a “pandemic”, state governors have been trying to slow the spread, by shutting down large gatherings. These gatherings included schools, ceremonies, offices, and more. Now that the schools are closed nationwide, governors have come up with a way to keep kids learning.

Distance Learning

Distance Learning is the plan that most schools across the country are using to keep students active and learning, but away from school, and in their homes. First, students meet with their teacher and class on an online meeting platform, such as Zoom or WebEx. The teacher would assign some work, and you would have to finish it before it was due. It’s basically the same thing as normal school, except everything is digital, and lots of people don’t like it.

How Do Students Like It?

Many students are now happy that they get to interact with their teachers and friends during meetings, and do work in their ideal environment. But some students don’t like that they can’t actually meet their teachers, or talk to their friends. But those people are far from the majority. The majority of students are liking this program. But, it is taking effect on some negatively. Now, some students are just sitting in their rooms, and not exercising, or moving a muscle. Not only is this bad for their muscles, but it can weaken their immune system too. During these times, that’s not good. But, this Distance Learning plan is impacting students positively as well. Kids are exercising their brain, along with online PE classes that make them physically exercise!

Is It Effective?

Some parents would say that the new learning plan isn’t helping their children learn new things. On the other hand, I think it is helping, because I am learning new things. You could argue that it’s not as effective, however. Schools have had to adjust to new curriculums, and new ways of teaching. Also, you don’t get as much work as a normal school day, so you aren’t learning as much. But, a recent MIT study shows that Distance Learning is just as effective as a normal school day. So don’t worry!

Like It Now?

Now you have all the information. Online learning is just as effective as a normal school day, the majority of students like it, and how it works. Now do you like it?
