This past year I have come to the realization that I am not as fit as I’d like to be. Throughout the year I played sports like field hockey, soccer, and dance but I wasn’t seeing any changes in my body health and weight. So I finally took a step forward and joined a gym. I did my research as thoroughly as I could. I read about what to eat (not sugar), what to do at the gym, and the healthiest lifestyle to have to get fit. As I was reading these tips and tricks the one thing I kept seeing was the fact that in order to lose weight you need a calorie deficit. What this means is that you should be burning more calories than you are consuming.
Now this sounds fairly hard seeing that to be healthy you should be eating 1000-2500 calories depending on your body. But then I read that if you have a moderately active lifestyle like I think I have, your body should burn about 1000 calories. Plus with all the exercise I do and sports I play shouldn’t I be losing weight?
Apparently not. For a while I just couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t losing weight. Then I realized I was probably gaining muscle mass which buries the weight loss. But I wasn’t seeing any changes looking at my body either. So I switched up my gym routine from 30 minutes of cardio and 4 weight machines for arms, legs and abs each to 45 to 50 minutes of cardio and 2 machines each for arms, legs and abs. I made this change 2 weeks ago and I’ve lost 4 pounds and see a difference in my body. The only reason this slight change is helping is because my body loses more calories doing cardio than weights. The main idea is to achieve a calorie deficit. You can do this without exercise at all. Just change your diet based on how many calories your body burns naturally.
