How To Survive An Internet Apocalypse

It’s scary that in the modern world almost everything is done by machine or controlled by the internet. Every thing we ever search, post or even look at online, is monitored. Maybe this is why it’s so important to stay safe on the internet.

What You Absolutely Should Not Do Online

Never ever ever respond to a stranger who starts chatting with you. No matter how nice they seem. Some people might actually be nice, but you can’t take that chance. If something like this happens to you, tell your parents or a trusted adult right away. Especially if that person is scaring you or intimidating you.

Don’t post any personal information online. Even If you think your best friend is going to be the one who’s going to see it. It’s okay to share this information face to face, but only with your parents permission, and only if you know the person very well (your best friend, cousin, etc.)

If you post something online, publicly, and regret what you sent, it’s already too late. Once you click send or post whatever you did will be in cyberspace forever, and you can’t delete it .Make sure to always think before you send something or post something online. You never know who’s watching.

Also don’t share passwords. Even with yourbest friend. What if you both get in a fight and he/she decides to use that information against you or tells someone you don’t trust about it? You’re close family should be the only people who know your passwords.

Things You should Do

Always make sure you’ve signed out of an account if you’re using a public computer or any other device.

Think before you decide to do anything that might end up badly, is what you’re saying something that could potentially hurt or offend someone else?

Ask your parents before signing up for any offers such as, “If you sign up with your email right now, you will get a bazillion dollars!”. Because that’s really not gonna happen.

make sure to check whether or not the site you’re on is protected ( if it is, you will be able to see a green lock right before the URL, in the search bar at the very top.

Just remember to always be careful when you’re online, everything you do will be saved so don’t do anything that you might regret in the future!
