The NBA (National Basketball Association), MLB (Major League Baseball), MLS (Major League Soccer), NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association), and NHL (National Hockey League) have all suspended their season because of Covid-19. The NFL (National Football League) are in the off season where they don’t have games and they are basically just having practices, but the NFL recently made it a rule to stop practices. Since the NBA is also suspended that means that the G-League and D-League have also suspended their games. Also since the NCAA has suspended their season that means that there is no March Madness this year.
NFL
The NFL has had one confirmed Covid-19 case so far, but that number is more than likely going to rise. The person with the virus is the New Orleans Saints head coach, Sean Payton, who is 56 years old. He tweeted saying, “Appreciate the well wishes. I’m feeling better and fortunate to not have any of the respiratory symptoms. 4 more days at home.#BEATCovid.” He is feeling better and will hopefully make a full recovery.
NBA
The NBA currently has 11 cases. The teams that have it are the Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, and the Detroit Pistons. The Utah Jazz’s star players Donovan Mitchell and center Rudy Gobert both have tested positive. The Lakers also have two members of the organization affected by the virus, but have not said whether it is players or the staff. Kevin Durant on the Brooklyn Nets so far is the only one who has tested positive. Marcus Smart is the only one that has tested positive for the virus on the Boston Celtics. On the 76ers three staff members have tested positive for the virus but no players. One member of the organization has tested positive but has not released information about them being a staff member or a player, on the Denver Nuggets team. On the Detroit Pistons Power Forward Christian Wood has tested positive.
MLB
Just like the NFL the MLB is also in their off season. However, the MLB’s first game was scheduled was before the NFL’s first game. For the MLB Opening Day is supposed be coming up soon, but because of the virus, the games will be suspended for a while and Opening Day won’t be anytime soon. Currently, there are no cases of Covid-19 in the MLB and we are hoping to keep it that way.
MLS
The MLS also doesn’t currently have any Covid-19 cases that have been reported. They are in the same situation as the MLB. They are in the off season and are about to start the season, but due to the virus it will be postponed for a while.
NCAA
The NCAA doesn’t have any cases either and are kind of in the same situation as the MLB and MLS. They aren’t really in an off season, they were just getting ready for the biggest tournament in the NCAA, March Madness. Unfortunately, they had to cancel that tournament completely due to the virus.
NHL
The NHL has one Covid-19 case and that is an Ottawa Senators player. The team has not released the name of who has it. The NHL has also suspended their season and no one knows when any of the leagues will continue.
Currently there are no sports league that are still going on right now and there probably won’t be any for a while.
